IRVING, Texas – (July 30, 2014) – USMD Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: USMD), a physician-led integrated health system, announced today that USMD Hospital at Arlington has received a Healthgrades 2014 Patient Safety Excellence Award for their exceptional performance in safeguarding patients against serious and potentially preventable complications, such as infections, during their hospital stays. This award recognizes hospitals that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety indicators and it places USMD Hospital at Arlington in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient safety.

“USMD is committed to our patients’ safety and we are honored to receive a Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award,” said John House, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of USMD Holdings. “At USMD, we are devoted to a patients-first culture and this award is a result of the hard work and dedication our staff puts into making sure our patients are our top priority each and every day. We are proud to receive this award.”

Hospitals were evaluated on specific clinical quality criteria, including: pressure sores or bed sores acquired during a hospital stay; death following a serious complication after surgery; catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital; hip fracture following surgery; respiratory failure resulting from surgery; deep blood clots in the lungs or legs after surgery; and bloodstream infections as a result of surgery. Hospitals must also have had zero occurrences of foreign objects left in the body during surgery or procedures.

“USMD Hospital at Arlington fosters a culture that places a tremendous emphasis on patient safety and this Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award is just one example of how we are living that focus,” said Marcia Crim, chief executive officer, USMD Hospital at Arlington. “I would like to thank the entire staff at the hospital, including Dr. Aaron Amos, USMD Hospital at Arlington’s chief of staff, and Dr. Russell Dickey, USMD Hospital at Arlington’s chief of surgery, for supporting USMD’s philosophy and mission of patients first, of which safety is a large component.”
